April Travels

The second weekend in April we took a trip up to Northern Michigan for Uncle Jed's (Mom's brother's) and Barb's wedding. When we left home it was nice and warm here, but we arrived at our destination in the middle of a snowstorm! It was quite an interesting trip; we didn't get there until 4am on Friday because of the slow going on the snowy roads. We did a lot of praying during the trip, and the Lord's protection was very evident!

On Friday morning Grandma Jackie brought Barb's daughters Olivia and Alice over to play with the girls while Grandma, Mom and I ran errands and then went to the church to decorate for the reception.

Olivia, Alice, Aleks, Zack and Jake

Grandpa Gene came from New Hampshire for the wedding and met Anja and Jake for the first time!

The wedding on Saturday was nice and simple, with only Barb's immediate family (which actually was a lot, because she is one of 12 children!) and some of Jed's extended family.

Sweet Anja!

Aunt Jana and Great-Grandma Hammond

Grandma Jackie and Grandpa Ken

Goofy cousins; Austin and Emmy

Alice, Aunt Barb, Uncle Jed and Olivia

Elsie and Grace - sweethearts!

We all enjoyed holding Aubrey Applekamp (Mom's cousin's daughter) for the first time!

Such a doll!

Great-Grandma and Grandpa Johnson and Austin

Sunday morning Grandpa Gene, Grandma Hammond, Aunt Jana and Austin joined us for breakfast before we left.

She was rubbing his back, and I guess she got a little carried away!

It was so good to see Grandma again!

We stayed in a cabin that weekend, and it was a lot of fun! It wasn't real big, which proved a little challenging. Strangely enough there were enough beds for all of us, plus a couple extra which is very unusual!

All the furniture was made out of logs!

We even had a fireplace, but we couldn't use it because otherwise it would mess up the thermostat

There was this beautiful mural on the wall, and several animal heads - it was our nature study for the weekend!

On our way home we stopped by Grandpa and Grandma Klahn's house for the afternoon. We were planning on stopping there on the way up, but because of the storm we weren't able to.

We celebrated Aleks' birthday with them, which was 3 days before.

Grandpa and the boys play cribbage while Jake looks on - it's never too young to learn!

Grandma made sandwiches for us from her delicious homemade bread!

Dad and the girls help out, too.

We enjoyed seeing lots of alive wildlife too, because Grandpa and Grandma live in the woods. Grace kept track of all the deer we saw on the trip and I think the total was somewhere around 17; too bad it wasn't hunting season!

This particular deer and turkey (in the backround; left side) are frequent visitors at Grandpa and Grandma's house. The turkey actually comes up on their deck!

We were able to see all 7 grandparents on this trip, as well as a lot of extended family!!

Yeah-- Ali posted!!! You just made my day, dear!! I'm so happy you posted, with just one complaint-- there's only one picture of you!!! Now that is just not right!! :)

It looks like you had a wonderful trip!! Seeing extended family, especially grandparents, is always fun!
And yes, the deer always come out when it's not hunting season, but as soon as the season starts, they totally vanish! It's absolutely absurd!! :) Just the other night we were playing volleyball and Noah's like "There's a deer!" and there was a deer right in the middle of the field by our house.
I love your 'Team Klahn' shirts!! Those are SO awesome!!! Did you have them specially made?? What does it say on the back?

Oh, and I love the little girls dresses- so sweet!!

Ah Ali, I miss you SOO much!! I've been thinking this week of all our visits and the precious memories of being together.....I miss you!!
Dad has been trying to find a job for your Dad, so maybe you guys will have to move down here! :)
Love you lots!! Tell everyone hi for me!

Oh well, one picture of me is enough, believe me! I've noticed previously there weren't many pictures of you on your blog . . . You are getting better, though! The only thing is, it's a little tough to get a picture of yourself if you're the one behind the camera!

Yep, we had the t-shirts made 'specially for us! On the back of the shirts it says our name and birth order (i.e. Emmy, and then below it 05). Mom and Dad's say "Coach Mom" and "Coach Dad". They turned out really well, and were actually really cheap! We all like wearing them.

Oh, I miss you so much too!! I've really been praying about coming to visit soon, but we'll see what happens! Earlier today I was reading in my journal about when I was at your house last, and when you and Noah visited. I have sooo many good memories with you!

Love you!

Ah-- the shirts were such a good idea!! I totally love it!!
Well sweetheart, you need to have more people take pictures so that you get in more of them!! :)
Are you doing your hair differently now?? It looked a little different then usual in that picture-- don't get me wrong, you look adorable, it just looked a bit different then I remembered-- your bangs maybe??
I miss you SOO much!!
Lots of Love and Hugs!

Yes, actually I am doing my hair a little differently. A couple weeks ago someone came to teach us how to cut hair and give us girls a trim, and she gave me thicker bangs. They're supposed to help w/ my cowlick, but so far they haven't done much! I'm not sure if I like them or not, but a lot of people have told me that they really like them, so we'll see if I do anything about it. I'm thinking about growing my bangs out, because I've had bangs for a long time and they can get really frustrating! But at the same time I don't exactly like the way I look without bangs. So we'll see . . . I hope all that made sense!

I'm missin' you like crazy!!
Tell your family I said "hi!".
Lots of love,
Ali

Well, I think I actually like 'the old look' better, before you got thicker bangs. Not because you look bad with them, but I have mental picture of you in my mind looking a certain way, and the new bangs are different then that mental picture!! :) They look good, I'm just partial to the way they used to be; if that makes any sense!!
I miss you SOO much!!
BTW, what kind of job should we be looking for your Dad?? I'm partly joking, but Dad is totally serious. He looks through the jobs ads in the local paper regularly. What about a feed-mill?

Gotta run!! Love you LOTS!

P.S. Silas say to tell "Ali Klahn I love her". :)
